Jim Whittam
Jim was one of the founders of the HSF Fun Run. He had a vision to create a Hillsborough tradition that brought families closer together and partnered with the athletic programs endorsed at the Hillsborough PublicSchools. Jim was a marathon runner, a triathlete, an AYSO coach and a Little League coach. Unfortunately, Jim passed away in 1999 after a 6 year battle with cancer.
Lakas Shimizu
Lakas Shimizu, South School Class of 2017, loved the Fun Run and enjoyed participating with his friends and family. Lakas passed away suddenly in 2013. As you run along the 2K course, you will see puns written by his brother Bayan in his memory.
Battle Osteosarcoma
HSF would like to recognize three students who lost their lives to osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer: Charlotte Murdoff, Dylan Toma, and Tyler Yamagishi. Charlotte, Dylan, and Tyler all attended Hillsborough schools and loved the many friends, teachers, and activities that made a big impact on their lives. Battle Osteosarcoma, a non-profit organization, was formed to honor the three children and to raise funds to support research for better treatment options and outcomes for osteosarcoma. In memory of Charlotte, Dylan, and Tyler, Battle Osteosarcoma helps to blaze new trails in the fight against this devastating disease.
